Stratus Vineyards
IN THIS MONTH’S THREE-PACK
Classic examples of the finesse that Stratus achieves in its wines, with a deeply complex merlot, a picture-perfect sauvignon blanc and a very rare botrytis-affected semillon.
Stratus Merlot 2015
VQA Niagara-on-the-Lake
$39.00
There’s so much complexity in this wine, you might not recognize it as merlot. Ripe plum, chocolate, cassis and black olive — this wine is fruit forward, concentrated and multi-layered. Pair with rich fall meaty fare.
2017 Stratus Sauvignon Blanc
VQA Niagara-on-the-Lake
$29.00
Sancerre in style, but resolutely Stratus in execution. It helps that winemaker JL Groux hails from the Loire. An elegant, refined wine with tropical tones and a clean and stony character. Pair with ceviches and grilled white fish.
2017 Stratus Botrytis Semillon
VQA Niagara-on-the-Lake
$35.00
A very rare wine from Stratus. This wine is sweet, but it’s not really a dessert wine. Laser precise with fresh apple, citrus, pineapple, marmalade and honeycomb. Pair with blue cheese, rich terrines and foie gras, or sweet and sour stir fry.
